Zinnia Baby Blanket C2C Crochet Pattern

Zinnia Baby Blanket C2C Crochet Pattern

I will never NOT plant zinnias in my garden! They are so hardy, so strong, so resilient, and so incredibly beautiful! Grab a packet of seeds from your garden center, toss them on the dirt, water them once, and walk away. By July, you will have an abundant harvest of blooms to bring inside! Zinnias have a long vase life, so they are a budget friendly way to keep fresh flowers in your home all summer and most of the fall. This year, I planted specific varieties that bloom shades of pink and white - which contrast strongly with the fresh green stems and leaves.

“Rebekah,” you remind me, “We are here to crochet. Not to garden.” Well, ok then, but I’m getting to the good part! Our new little girl is named after my favorite flower of all time (not zinnias), but my son has taken to calling her any flower he can think of. Of course, she has been my biggest inspiration this year, as I design so many patterns based on all the flowers - just like the Zinnia C2C Blanket.

The Details

The Zinnia C2C Blanket is made with worsted/4 weight yarn with a 6.5 mm hook. This free crochet baby blanket pattern works up to be 40” square, the perfect size to wrap up a baby or for a toddler to cuddle with. Want to make it a little bigger? You can use bulky/5 weight yarn with an 8 mm hook for a larger blanket by following the same pattern.

This blanket is made using the popular Corner to Corner (C2C) method with minimal colorwork. The colors are dispersed throughout the pattern to make it easy to work up without the use of bobbins. Most of the colors are used, dropped, and fasted off after just a few rows -this cuts down on the amount of tangling and frustration that can happen with making detailed colorwork patterns. Personally, I have very little patience for constantly changing colors, but I love how easy this pattern is, and how quickly I was able to make it!

The Materials

I’ve worked with Mighty Stitch yarn from We Crochet before, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to make a blanket with this exceptionally soft yarn. I also happen to have enough left over to make hats for my little crew of kiddos (yes, that’s four hats) for this winter! If you have never used the We Crochet yarn before, you NEED to stop what you are doing and go order yourself a box of this amazing squishiness! The Mighty Stitch yarn is available in, Worsted/4, Bulky/5, and Super Bulky/6 weights and is a blend of 80% Acrylic and 20% Superwash Wool.

In case you are wondering, the term “superwash” refers to the washability of the yarn. Many wool yarns cannot be machine washed without the item felting together into a solid piece, but superwash wool is treated in such a way that you are able to machine wash (cold) and tumble dry (low) anything made with this yarn without fearing that it will felt together. Which makes it perfect for baby blankets and other child’s wearables - because, let’s be honest, kids are messy.
