What is it about lemons that make me think “clean”? I gravitate toward lemon scented cleaners, lemon printed dish towels, diffusing lemon essential oils, and drinking a jar of water graced with sliced lemons. The natural progression of my lemon obsession would obviously be a crochet lemon dish scrubbie! I whipped this little dish washing scrubbie up using scraps of different cottons I had lying around in literally less than fifteen minutes! Talk about a quick and easy summer crochet project!

Our growing family makes a lot of dirty dishes - which I then wash by hand every single day. One of these days, we will get a dishwasher, but, for now, I’m looking for ways to both simplify and enjoy the dishwashing process - since it is a necessary evil.

One method I have used to help myself enjoy washing dishes is to surround the dishwashing experience with positive sensations - diffusing oils that I like, listening to music that relaxes me, using soaps and scrubbies that are cute, pretty, or just plain nice. This little lemon scrubby brings a smile to my face and makes dishwashing slightly less painful!

Before I began making my own dishwashing scrubbies, I was a dedicated disposable sponge user. I told myself that I could disinfect it regularly, but without a dishwasher, I wonder if I am truly sanitizing all of its little spongy depths? Also, I found that the sponges I was using quickly fell apart - after maybe a week or two of use. I ended up throwing them away for a new, fresh sponge. Now that I make my own from cotton, I can easily toss them in the clothes washing machine with a load of towels to disinfect and clean it. They also last for years - reducing the unnecessary waste going out of my house each week.

Once features I knew I needed to add to this dish washing scrubbie - a bottle nipple cleaner! My youngest has just weaned off bottles now, but we will have lots of sippy cups top clean. I wanted the leaves to be able to squeeze into those tiny, narrow places to get out any old milk (eeeeewwwww!!!) that might be lingering behind.

I hope you enjoy washing dishes with this adorable scrubbie as much as I do! These are so cute and work up so quickly, I feel they would also be a fantastic addition to any summer market or to an Etsy shop! I plan to make a set and wrap them with a ribbon to give away as gifts this year as well!
